Ear Surgery

Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is an aesthetic procedure that alters the size, position, or proportion of the ears.
You may want to consider ear surgery if you have any of the following: overly large ears or protruding ears occurring on one or both sides in varying degrees.

FAQ

1. What are the benefits of this surgery?

Ear surgery moves the ears closer to the head so they stick out less with ear pinning, makes the ears more symmetrical with ear repositioning, enhances the proportions of your face by reducing oversized ears and improves your self-confidence.

2. What type of anesthesia will I have?

Ear surgery can be performed under local anesthesia alone or under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation depending on the patient’s preference.

3. What type of incisions will I have?

The ear surgery incision will be placed within the natural crease behind the ear. This allows for removal of extra cartilage or soft tissue that makes the ear protrude too much. It fades with time and becomes barely visible.

4. What to expect after the surgery?

It is normal to have swelling and some bruising for a few days after ear surgery, at The Skin Clinic we are proud to have developed techniques that reduce them tremendously. The recovery time is typically around 3-5 weeks during which you should wear a bandage, rest and avoid straining.

5. What are the possible complications and risks of ear surgery?

Complications sometimes occur, but with proper patient preparation, careful execution and follow up we reduce their occurrence and if they ever occur we are able to manage them.
The risks of ear surgery will be discussed in full details during the consultation.
