Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is an aesthetic surgery that removes excess fat and skin and tightens the abdominal muscles restoring a flat tummy and a slimmer waist. It can be combined with High definition Liposuction to better define the natural lines of the abdomen.

While traditional Tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat and tightens the abdominal muscle, high definition abdominoplasty takes that to the next level by etching the musculature to accentuate the natural lines of the body and enhance the muscular definition in order to achieve a more sculpted body.

If you have unwanted excess skin and fat in your abdomen, stretch marks below the belly button and relaxed abdominal muscles that did not improve with minimally invasive procedures you will benefit from an abdominoplasty.

However, a tummy tuck does not treat visceral or intra-abdominal fat, it is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.

Before undergoing a tummy tuck surgery:
You should not be more than 5 kg overweight, and your weight should be stable. You may need to lose weight to be a better candidate for tummy tuck.
You can’t smoke. Smoking slows down the healing process and increases the risk of serious complications during and after surgery. If you smoke, you must quit before surgery.
You will have a scar located in your bikini area.
Weight gain following the surgery will negatively affect your result.
If you plan to have children, you may want to postpone your surgery.
Pregnancy will stretch the skin and compromise your surgery results.

FAQ

1. What type of incisions will I have?

Tummy tuck requires a U-cut shape incision above the pubic mound and inside the bikini lines, from one hipbone to the other and a well hidden incision around the belly button. These incisions will fade away with time and become barely visible. At The Skin Clinic, we also use laser skin resurfacing to improve the scar outcome.

2. What to expect after the surgery?

It is normal to have swelling and some bruising for a few days after tummy tuck surgery, at The Skin Clinic we are proud to have developed techniques that reduce them tremendously. The recovery time is typically around 2 weeks during which you should rest, you will feel some discomfort and soreness after the procedure but it will be controlled with pain meds and you will need to wear tight garments for 2 months to decrease the swelling and keep your skin compressed.

3. How long will the results last?

You may notice an improved body contour immediately after your procedure, but an accurate picture of your tummy tuck results can take several months.
The results of tummy tuck are technically permanent. However, weight gain, aging, pregnancy, and lifestyle factors may affect your results. It is crucial to maintain healthy habits and a stable weight to maintain your tummy tuck results. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies would be advised to postpone the surgery.
